Heat Waves by Glass Animals is the most popular FIFA song of all time

Glass Animals' hit song Heat Waves is officially the best FIFA song of all time, according to Spotify streaming data.

To mark the end of the EA Sports-FIFA era, the guys over at Insure4Sport have analysed streaming data for all FIFA soundtracks since the ‘90s – pulling out the most popular song from each game, and compiling the ultimate playlist.

So what features on the list, I hear you ask? Well, there are a few surprises in the mix.

If you look up every song from each edition of the game from 1998 to 2022 on Spotify, the song Heat Waves by Glass Animals has picked up more than two billion streams on the streaming service, making it the most popular of all time.

Heatwaves featured on the FIFA 21 soundtrack and was a regular in the global charts. In fact, it was the #1 most streamed Spotify song in the world for several months.

Here's a reminder of what that track sounds like. If you're a regular TikTok user like me, then you'll be very familiar with this one.

So what about the rest? The top five best FIFA songs, according to Spotify streams, have featured on games from the past ten years.

The rapid rise of streaming and widespread changes to the way music is consumed in general owes a lot to the launch of Spotify in 2006, among other streaming platforms.

The Nights by the late, great Swedish DJ Avicii comes in second place – a classic hit on FIFA 15 – with 1.2 billion streams.

Billie Eillish’s hit song you should see me in a crown from FIFA 19 sits in third place, raking in over 696 billion streams and, of course, the brilliant Imagine Dragons song On Top Of The World makes it into the top four.

From the latest edition of FIFA, the most streamed song is Ojitos Lindos by Bad Bunny ft. Bomba Estéreo - a track currently has 586 million streams, although I'm sure it's emergence on FIFA 23 will only increase those numbers.

FIFA 04 classic Jerk it Out by Caesars – an all-time favourite for many readers – also features in the top 26 list alongside Sell Out by Reel Big Fish, Love Me Again by John Newman and MGMT's catchy song Kids.

Here's the study in full. What are your thoughts?
