Bruno Fernandes Told He Could Lose His Place In Man United Team Following Christian Eriksen Signing

Bruno Fernandes could lose his place in the Manchester United XI following the arrival of Christian Eriksen, claims Tony Cascarino.

Man United have snapped up Eriksen on a free transfer, with the 30-year-old penning a three-year contract at Old Trafford.

He's Erik ten Hag's second signing of the summer following the acquisition of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.

The Red Devils remain in hot pursuit for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong, but Eriksen could play a big role in the new season.

Cascarino believes the Danish midfielder is more likely to play than the Portuguese maestro, citing Ten Hag's style of play.

"Eriksen’s one of them that always wants the ball, great at set pieces, great vision, weight of pass superb, he will be the best midfielder that United have got," he said on talkSPORT.

"My fear with Fernandes is he had a really difficult time last year and I’m not sure if he will be moved into a slightly different position.

"He won’t get that luxury of being a number ten in that you can float, number 10s are a luxury now because if he’s not pulling the strings and not being the most important player on the pitch for United, he becomes a bit redundant.

"Last year he spent a lot of the time in no man’s land, in the position between the forward line and midfield and he got frustrated by it, you could see in the way he acted.

"I feel Eriksen’s more likely to play than Fernandes at the moment, I’m just not sure about his season last year, he’s got a lot of ability as a footballer but he’s got to fit into the way that Ten Hag wants to play."

Fernandes was a revelation in the first 18 months of his Man United career, scoring and creating goals at an incredible rate.

But he struggled to hit similar heights last season, scoring just 10 goals across all competitions as Man United finished sixth in the Premier League.

Eriksen, on the other hand, impressed at Brentford and showed he still has a lot to offer following his Inter Milan release.
