Fans Think Emiliano Martínez Blunder Against Manchester United Is 'Karma' For Incident In September

Lots of fans are saying the same thing.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez had an absolute stinker in the opening minutes of their clash against Manchester United - and fans are calling it "karma" for his antics at Old Trafford last year.

Back in September, the Argentine goalkeeper dared Cristiano Ronaldo to step up and take a penalty awarded in stoppage-time after Kortney Hause handled in the area.

He was spotted shouting "You take it!" at the five-time Ballon d'Or winner; a gesture that was soon picked up by fans on social media.

Despite his impressive record from the spot, Ronaldo allowed Bruno Fernandes to take the spot-kick and Martinez did his customary trash talking.

Fernandes then smacked the ball over the bar and into the Stretford End before Martinez, who has a great record saving penalties, performed a humping dance celebration right in front of the United supporters.

You can see the footage below.

Four months later and in the sixth minute of their clash against Ralf Rangnick's side at Villa Park, an unfortunate slip meant Martinez fumbled a longe range effort from, you guessed it, Bruno Fernandes.

Here is that Massimo Taibi-esc moment below.

Twitter, of course, were quick to remind Martinez of his antics at Old Trafford back in September.

Manchester United go into the break with a deserved 1-0 lead thanks to that Bruno Fernandes effort in the opening stages. Thoughts on that first half at Villa Park?

Let us know in the comments.
