Garth Crooks Gives Jurgen Klopp The Most Dubious Transfer Advice Going

The BBC pundit has suggested that Liverpool sign one player from the Premier League.

Why can't Garth Crooks just be director of football for every club, it would make life more interesting. The BBC pundit has a very interesting suggestion to give Jurgen Klopp over who he should sign.

Not even the most staunch of Jurgen Klopp apologists would deny that, no matter how good their attacking line up has been, the defence has struggled to get anywhere outside the rank of shambles.

That's exactly why the German was desperate to sign Virgil van Dijk in the summer and why, several months later, he's decided to splash £75 million on the tall Dutchman in the January window.

But Klopp has admitted that the signing won't instantly change his side's fortunes and more needs to be improved if they are to stop leaking goals.

Fortunately for him Garth Crooks is a man who can help. Writing for his 'team of the week' column on BBC Sport the former Spurs man suggested that Liverpool make a move for Brighton's Lewis Dunk, saying:

"It was Dunk's performance against Watford, and again at Newcastle, that left me thinking he is a top-four defender if ever I saw one. In terms of his defensive qualities I don't think I've seen a better centre-back this season. I've seen more polished performances but nothing quite so efficient.

"It struck me that Liverpool could do themselves a great service by making an audacious move for Dunk. What would he cost - £35m in today's grossly over-inflated market? Offer £45m and I've no doubt Brighton boss Chris Hughton would drive him to Anfield himself"

Baring in mind that they've just spent so much money on one central defender it seems unlikely the Reds will be spending anymore on that position, especially so much on a 26 year old who has spent all but this season outside of the top division.

And it's fair to say that fans weren't on board with the suggestion:

Stick to picking your team of the week Garth, not sure transfer policy for a team with title aspirations is your thing!
