Manchester United have been told to 'stop messing around' and replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, after the loss against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 13 times Premier League winners looked miles off challenging rivals Liverpool and Manchester City when they started their season with a loss at home against Palace.

After the match lots of fans and pundits called on the club to back the manager in the transfer window, with only goal scorer Donny van de Beek brought in so far.

However others have criticised the manager and claimed that tactics were the problem. talkSPORT's Alex Crook has gone on the attack, claiming the club need to replace the manager.

"Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a very lucky boy, and I'll tell you why...

"The vast majority of United fans always lay the blame for their failings at Ed Woodward's door.

"Yes, their recruitment leaves a lot to be desired, but yesterday wasn't about poor recruitment or the fact they haven't signed Jadon Sancho. It was about bad tactics and bad management.

"Roy Hodgson had his team well-drilled, Palace had a game plan, they stuck to it and executed it perfectly.

"I'm not convinced Solskjaer can do that. He's got one way to play, and that's on the counter.

"It's easy to beat United, just give them the ball and ask them to break you down - nine times out of ten they can't do it!

"Tell me, why was Dan James, whose confidence level is clearly though the floor, picked ahead of Mason Greenwood? Why did Timothy Fosu-Mensah get the nod ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka? Two decisions that made no sense at all.

"By the way, Solskjaer has spent £240 million and the gap between Man United and the top-two is still a chasm!

"How many of those Crystal Palace players get into Man United's first XI? That's a rhetorical question, because the answer is none, not even WIlfried Zaha.

"If I'm Ed Woodward, do I want to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer another £100m?

"Yes, he got to three semi-finals last season, but he also lost three semi-finals, and the only reason they got into the top-four was because Leicester fell off a cliff in the second half of the season and Chelsea couldn't sign anyone.

"United need to stop messing around NOW. They need to appoint a proper proven manager, or they're in massive danger of finding themselves even further behind."

United were missing players because they had limited time back in pre-season training, due to their run to the semi-final of the Europa League, and the likes of Wan-Bissaka and Greenwood were deemed not ready.

It showed United's lack of strength in depth with Dan James and Timothy Fosu-Mensah having to play in their place.

A right winger has been the main target for United this summer, though time is now running out with just two weeks left of the window.
