Thiago Silva's nightmare Premier League debut has been put down to Chelsea's poor tactics in a fascinating Twitter thread.

Chelsea drew 3-3 with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday night but the game's big talking point was The Blues going 3-0 down in the first 30 minutes.

Silva, who was playing his first game in the English top-flight, slipped on the ball to let Callum Robinson through for West Brom's second of the game.

Get French Football News have attempted to absolve the 36-year-old of blame and instead focused on Frank Lampard's set-up.

GFFN stated: "He spent virtually all of last season as the right-sided central defender alongside Presnel Kimpembe - today he plays on the left side - that tweak, although minor, has major impact on how a player utilises his feet in play construction."

As well as playing him on the opposite side of defence, it is also claimed Chelsea's high defensive line does not suit the former Paris Saint-Germain man.

"Also, the higher the defensive line, the more that Thiago Silva is going to struggle in general - at PSG he is used to Marquinhos coming very deep to get the ball. These two major differences make this poor Premier League debut totally logical."

Fans have reacted to the analysis and they certainly think it is controversial.

Chelsea were stunned at the Hawthorns after two goals from Robinson and a Kyle Bartley header.

However, they rallied in the second half and goals from English trio Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham earned them a point.

Following the game, Lampard addressed Silva's mistake but refused to make a huge issue out of it.

"Thiago one is a mistake," Lampard told Sky Sports per Metro.

"He's been there long enough to know one, we'll certainly give him that one in his first game.

"And then Marcos loses his man from the third goal from the corner. It was mistakes, clear mistakes [that cost us].

"You can have as many meetings as you want but with those mistakes you give yourself a mountain to climb. [We lacked] a bit if urgency in the team.

"It is two points lost at the end of the day - and that's no disrespect to West Brom. You come here and you know the transition and any mistakes would be something they would jump on - that and set pieces. You can't legislate for the mistakes that there were today."
