Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal to bring Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira to the club.

Reports in Portugal have claimed that Mikel Arteta’s side have agreed a deal worth around €40 million with the Portuguese club.

News outlet Record has said that the Gunners will pay a €35 million up front fee and an extra €5 million will be paid from ‘achievable’ performance related add ons.

The 22-year-old is said to be travelling to London in the coming hours to complete a medical before finalising a five year contract.

Arsenal fans are obviously getting excited about their potential new signing despite some fans not knowing a great deal about him.

One fan tweeted: “I’ve been a huge huge huge fan of Fabio Vieira since two minutes ago.”

However, some Arsenal fans have said that Vieira reminds them of former Gunners fan favourite Santi Cazorla after a video compilation of Vieira’s best bits emerged on Twitter.

The video showed clips of Vieira’s neat dribbling skills and showed him picking out some top class passes. It is no surprise that Arsenal fans have compared him with Cazorla as their play style and position are similar.

Vieira is set to be Arteta’s second signing of the summer transfer window after the club completed a deal for 19-year-old Brazilian youngster Marquinhos last week.

Vieira made 39 appearances for Porto last season, scoring seven goals and had 16 assists to his name.

The attacking midfielder came through the ranks at Porto and made his senior first team debut back in 2020. In total he has 75 appearances for the club and ten goals.

At just 22, time is well on his side as he will be continuing his development at one of the biggest clubs in European football under the guidance of a young and talented manager.

A real good bit of business from the Gunners as they look to get back into the top four places next season after agonisingly missing out last season after a poor end to the campaign, they were beaten to fourth spot by fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners continue to be linked with Manchester City man Gabriel Jesus and a host of other strikers as they look for replacements for departed strikers Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.
