Erik ten Hag hints that Aaron Wan-Bissaka's Man Utd career is over

Erik ten Hag hints that Aaron Wan-Bissaka's Man Utd career is over

Erik ten Hag has hinted post-match that Wan-Bissaka's United career could be over following the 1-0 win over West Ham.

Erik ten Hag has hinted that forgotten man Aaron Wan-Bissaka's Manchester United career could be over following the 1-0 win over West Ham.

United edged out the Hammers in a tight affair at Old Trafford as they made eight games without defeat and moved ahead of Chelsea into fifth place.

Marcus Rashford nodded home the only goal of the game in what was a landmark 100th goal for United for the homegrown player.

But it was post-match comments about the development of right-back Diogo Dalot that has got fans talking following the game.

Dalot, 23, has come on leaps and bounds in recent times and has been entrusted as the number one right-back at the club as a result.

He's started all 17 games he's featured in across the Premier League and Europa League so far this season and provided two assists and a goal so far.

However, clearly this isn't sustainable but the only other option at the club is Wan-Bissaka, who has missed almost the whole season with back trouble.

This has meant he's only featured for a total of four minutes of action so far this season, a very small cameo in the 2-1 win over Liverpool back in August.

Dalot won't be able to continue to play every game, which is something that ten Hag eluded to in his post-match interview with Sky Sports.

“I’m really happy with the development of Diogo [Dalot].” The Dutchman revealed. "In possession he's really good, he has the breath to go up and down so the development is really good.

"But I have to mention a club as Manchester United need two good full-backs because we have a lot of games to cover."

Last season saw Wan-Bissaka play 26 times across all competitions, but he provided no goals or assists during that time which highlighted his inability to be an effective modern full-back.

Clearly he doesn't fit the progressive, ball-playing style of ten Hag's United whilst the Portuguese defender does.

His interview seems to be hinting at a signing a new right-back to help cover the load of Dalot and he doesn't seem to fancy the former Crystal Palace defender to do the job.

With a World Cup and the January window on the horizon, we could see United dip into their pockets (once again) to find a suitable replacement.

This could spell the end for the £50m signing of the past, as it's looking more likely he'll need to re-ignite his career someone else.
