Piers Morgan certainly isn't afraid to share his opinions but one social media post from the TV presenter spectacularly backfired on him after England's dramatic win over Slovakia.

England had looked to be heading out of Euro 2024 in calamitous fashion when Ivan Schranz gave Slovakia a shock lead in their round of 16 clash in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday.

But with just seconds remaining in extra time, Jude Bellingham snatched an equaliser for Gareth Southgate's side.

Just when it looked to be over for the Three Lions, the Real Madrid star connected with an overhead kick to send the match to extra time.

Harry Kane then scored in the additional period to secure a 2-1 win for England, who will now face Switzerland in their quarter-final on Saturday.

Before Bellingham's dramatic equaliser, Morgan took to social media to voice his frustration with several England players – including the two eventual goalscorers.

"I'd sub Bellingham, Foden and Kane. None of them (inexplicably) seem up for this at all. Bring on some pace and hunger: Palmer, Gordon, Watkins," Morgan posted on X.

England fans were quick to mock Morgan after the full-time whistle.

"Aged well," one sarcastic fan posted.

Another wrote: "Good call on that one."

While another simply posted an image of Bellingham and Kane performing the former’s trademark celebration.

Speaking after the match, Bellingham hit out at critics of the English team and "rubbish" comments aimed at the squad.

"You know what I mean by the rubbish. Playing for England should be the most proud moment of your career but often it's quite difficult," said Bellingham.

"There's a really high intense pressure. The fans expect a lot from us regardless of what happened in recent tournaments years and years ago.

"People talk a lot. You do have to take it personally a little bit. We work so hard at this game.

"We come in every day, we work hard to put on a performance for the fans, sometimes it doesn't go well and sometimes it feels like there's a a bit of a pile on, it's not nice to hear.

"But you can always use it and for moments like that, it's nice to throw it back to some people."
