England manager Gareth Southgate has named his -man provisional squad for Euro 2024 - and there are a few surprises.

The Three Lions will play friendly matches against Iceland and Bosnia and Herzegovina before travelling to Germany to take part in Euro 2024.

England have been drawn in Group C for the tournament, which will see them take on Slovenia, Serbia and Denmark between June 16 and 25.

Southgate has had significant dilemmas ahead of naming his squad, with the likes of Cole Palmer and Kobbie Mainoo forcing themselves into his thinking after superb Premier League seasons.

Crystal Palace stars Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton, as well as Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa, would have beem among the other players hoping to be in strong contention.

The England boss has now made his picks - with all six of those above names picked as part of a 33-man provisional squad that will be trimmed down to a maximum of 26 players by the time Euro 2024 rolls around.

But it is one inclusion that has divided fans - Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw.

While Shaw is undoubtedly England's best left-back when fully fit, he has not played a game for United since February due to injury and is set to miss the FA Cup final this weekend.

As a result, the 28-year-old will potentially only have the two friendlies in June to prove his fitness ahead of the tournament - with Southgate not selecting another natural left-back in the squad.

One wrote: "He's not played for months... will take him ages to get match fit."

Another said: "Strange considering he hasn't played for United for months, and he'll miss the FA Cup final."

And a third asked: "So you're telling me Luke Shaw, who's missed the majority of the season, got a call-up but Reece James didn't."

Other fans, though, understood Southgate's reasoning, with one writing: "If he's going to be fit, he should be, he's England's best left-back by some considerable distance."

Another agreed: "Luke Shaw is England's best LB."
