"He's done nothing wrong" - Wayne Rooney's honest comments on Cristiano Ronaldo have re-emerged

Ronaldo took aim at former Manchester United teammate Rooney in an extraordinary interview with Piers Morgan.

Manchester United fans believe Wayne Rooney's comments on Cristiano Ronaldo were spot-on following the latter's outburst during an interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo promised to tell the 'truth' about his situation after failing to force a move away from Old Trafford back in August.

He dropped several bombshells in a 90-minute chat with Morgan for TalkTV, with the full interview set to air on Wednesday and Thursday.

Among those in the line of fire was Rooney, who has criticised former teammate Ronaldo's behaviour this season.

"I don’t know why he criticises me so badly... probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at a high level," Ronaldo told Morgan.

"I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true..."

Ronaldo and Rooney played together for five years, winning three Premier League titles and the Champions League.

The pair struck up a fine partnership on the pitch while also being close friends off it during Ronaldo's time in England.

Despite Ronaldo believing all Rooney does is criticise, he did offer a sympathetic look at his former teammate's situation earlier this year.

The D.C. United manager spoke to Eleven Sports about Ronaldo's treatment under current Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.

"I know Cristiano. I know it will be very difficult for him to sit on the bench," Rooney declared. "He doesn't want to be on the bench. He wants to play every minute of every game.

"He's obviously had an incredible career, better than any of us. I think he and [Lionel] Messi are two of the greatest players to play the game. Unfortunately, age catches up with all of us.

"He's not 23, he's 37 now. I think it's tough. It's going to be tough and it will be tough to accept what's going on. Not playing, not being on the bench.

"It's on him to try and get back into the team. If he does that, obviously he has to take his chances."

Rooney is United's all-time top goalscorer and won 17 major honours during his time at the club.

Fans have been quick to defend Rooney's stance on Ronaldo after seeing his take go viral on social media.

One person commented: "Rooney's comments on Ronaldo were respectful and accurate. Ronaldo's on Rooney were pathetic."

Another said: "I'm struggling to see what about Rooney's comments were disrespectful?"

A third tweeted: "You’re not a human if you genuinely choose Ronaldo’s side in this altercation."

While someone put: "Still trying to figure out why this is so wrong."
