A brilliant video of Cristiano Ronaldo being a leader after Portugal's win over Ghana shows his importance to the team.

Ronaldo, who played for the first time since his Manchester United departure, scored a penalty in his side's 3-2 victory in their World Cup opener.

He opened the scoring from the spot in the 65th minute before being replaced two minutes from time.

But he remained a big influence as he barked orders and instructions from the touchline.

And once the final whistle blew, the 37-year-old embraced every Portugal player and showed respect to the opposition.

The clip also shows him speaking to goalkeeper Diego Costa, who nearly cost his team after making a mistake in the dying stages of the game.

Ronaldo became the first men's player to score in five different World Cup tournaments.

And speaking after the game, he called his achievement a 'beautiful moment'.

He said: "It was a week that finishes the chapter, it's closed. We won and I could help the team - the rest does not matter.

"This was a beautiful moment, my fifth World Cup," he added.

"We won, we started on our good foot and it is a very important win. The first match is crucial in these tournaments.

"The first player to score goals at five World Cups, this makes me very proud."

Portugal boss Fernando Santo hailed his star man, calling him 'one of the best players' ever in glowing praise: "One of the best players in the world, one of the best players ever.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is a phenomenon, a legend like many who have comes and gone before. In 50 years' time, we will continue to speak about him."

Ronaldo and Co resume their Qatar venture against Uruguay next Monday before taking on South Korea next Friday.
