Cristiano Ronaldo has now officially departed Man Utd after the club confirmed his exit by 'mutual agreement'. What is the net worth of the football legend?

On Tuesday evening, the Red Devils broke the news that most football fans had been expecting since Ronaldo's explosive interview with Piers Morgan was aired last week.

The 37-year-old criticised the club's owners, the Glazer family, as well as manager Erik ten Hag.

He also questioned the decision to appoint Ralf Rangnick as interim manager last season - a coach he said he had 'never even heard of'. In addition, Ronaldo took aim at club legends Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville.

In a statement, United said: "Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.

"The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family all the best for the future."

Cristiano Ronaldo at Man Utd: A brief history

Cristiano Ronaldo joined Man Utd from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, at 18 years of age.

He would go on to establish himself as one of the world's best players during his first spell, culminating in a maiden Champions League and Ballon d'Or win in 2008.

Ronaldo departed United to join Real Madrid in 2009, for what was then a world record fee of £80 million.

After four more Ballon d'Or wins with Real, further cementing his reputation as one of the two best players of his generation, alongside Lionel Messi, Ronaldo moved to Juventus in 2018.

Three years later, he returned to United to complete one of the greatest comebacks in football history.

But while it promised so much - and Ronaldo did net a superb 24 goals last season - the story has not ended in perfect fashion. The Portuguese icon will be on the lookout for a new club after the World Cup concludes next month.

Cristiano Ronaldo net worth: How much has the football legend earned in his career, and what does he earn per year?

According to Forbes, Ronaldo has earned $115 million in the year of 2022. Only basketball legend LeBron James ($121.2m) and the Portuguese's perennial on-pitch rival Messi ($130m) have earned more, as per the same source.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror say that Ronaldo's net worth stands at around an incredible $500m, with his career earnings already passing the $1bn mark.

They also claim that Ronaldo can receive up to $1.6 million every time he posts on Instagram. He is the most-followed person in the history of the social media platform, passing 500 million followers this month.

It has been a sensational playing career for the 37-year-old - and there may still be room for one more chapter before the book closes for good.
