Cristiano Ronaldo And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer In Disagreement Over Position Already

Cristiano Ronaldo And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer In Disagreement Over Position Already

Cristiano Ronaldo could come to blows with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over his position at the club.

Cristiano Ronaldo could disagree with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on his best position for Manchester United ahead of his eagerly anticipated second debut for the club this weekend.

The Portuguese phenomenon is set to play for the Red Devils against Newcastle United on Saturday, but it is unknown whether he will play on the wing or up top.

According to West Ham United legend Paulo Di Canio, Ronaldo has returned to Old Trafford to reclaim his place on the wing and will refuse to play centre-foward - which could spark arguments amongst the United camp.

During his time as a fresh-faced 18-year-old, Ronaldo started his career out on the left wing for both Sporting Lisbon and United and would regularly take on players with his famous stepovers.

He eventually moved to Real Madrid and was used to devastating effect in attacking positions before he was eventually morphed into a centre-forward, becoming every defenders' worst nightmare.

At Juventus, the 36-year-old was largely played up top, but Di Canio says he isn’t convinced that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner wants to be used as a lone striker in Solskjaer’s team this season.

Speak to La Gazzetta dello Sport’s In The Box podcast, Di Canio said: “Ronaldo will improve the technical level, but he joins a team with many strikers and wingers.

“Solskjaer said he sees him as a centre-forward, but Ronaldo didn’t want to do it at Juventus.

“I still see him starting on the left, but United have other players in the same position including Jadon Sancho."

United agreed a deal understood to be worth £28m to sign Ronaldo - and thoughts must now turn on how Solskjaer will deploy him in his star-studded side.

The Portugal international will wear his trademark seven shirt after Edinson Cavani agreed to hand over the number, but whereabouts on the pitch will we see Ronaldo mark his territory?
