Cristiano Ronaldo Missed Out On Three Mammoth £1 Million Manchester United Bonuses

Cristiano Ronaldo had three huge bonuses inserted into his Manchester United contract but didn't achieve them.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed out on three Manchester United bonuses each worth £1 million last season.

The Manchester United No.7 returned to United last summer on wages of £475,000-a-week - a substantial reduction from the £800,000-a-week he was said to be collecting at Juventus.

The 37-year-old scored 24 goals in 38 games in all competitions, including 18 in the Premier League.

His goals, however, were not enough to stop United from ending the campaign with their lowest ever points tally in the Premier League.

And according to the Daily Star, United's sixth-placed finish denied Ronaldo a hefty six-figure bonus which he was due if they qualified for next season's Champions League.

He would also receive £1 million if he won the UEFA Player of the Year award, and the same sum should he have claimed the Ballon d'Or for a sixth time.

Neither happened, though he is said to have earned £850,000 as a result of his hat-trick against Norwich City last season.

As per The Sun, trio of goals - which took him to 21 for the season, led to a payment of £750,000 for passing the 20 goal mark.

From that point onwards, he would be in line to receive a further £100,000 for every additional goal and the free-kick winner Norwich ensured that payment was due.

He found the net three more times against Arsenal, Chelsea and Brentford respectively, netting him an extra £300,000.

It was also reported that he collected £1 million for finishing as United's top scorer by a country mile.

Ronaldo has told United he wishes to leave for a second time due to his desire to continue playing in the Champions League as his career draws to a close.

But rather tactically, he waited until July to put in the transfer request so that he would be entitled to a six figure bonus at the beginning of the second year of his Old Trafford deal.

With moves to Saudi Arabia and Chelsea not on the cards, Atletico Madrid have shown interest in bringing Ronaldo back to La Liga.

New United boss Erik ten Hag maintains that Ronaldo is part of his plans and will be staying put.
