Cristiano Ronaldo Irked Three Manchester United Teammates Before Expressing Desire To Leave

Cristiano Ronaldo Irked Three Manchester United Teammates Before Expressing Desire To Leave

Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo could be heading for the exit door at Manchester United.

Cristiano Ronaldo dropped a major bombshell on Manchester United after telling the club he wants to leave in the summer transfer window.

It was reported on Saturday that Ronaldo has told the club to let him leave if a ‘satisfactory offer’ comes in.

It is believed that Ronaldo’s return last summer irked three of Manchester United’s players.

Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani was amongst those who were unhappy with Ronaldo’s return to United, Cavani was bound to be then manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first choice striker and was wearing the iconic number 7 shirt. But once Ronaldo walked through the door, he was relegated to second choice and he found himself giving up the number 7 shirt for Ronaldo

Cavani ended up making just 20 appearances across all competitions, scoring just twice as he endured an injury hit season.

Frenchman Anthony Martial was also said to have been upset by the arrival of Ronaldo, it is believed that Martial’s mood changed after struggling to get game time. He then left Manchester to join La Liga side Sevilla for the second part of the season, but failed to impress as he ended his loan spell in Spain with just one goal.

Last but not least, it was club captain Harry Maguire who is the third player irritated by Ronaldo’s return. The Englishman felt undermined by the Portuguese’s position as a leader with the Red Devils squad.

Former United player Gary Neville did suggest that Ronaldo created problems when he returned to the club.

He told The Overlap earlier this year: “I think at the start of the season, he created a problem straight away with Cavani.”

“[Cavani was] being pleaded to stay and lead the attack for the year, but when they signed Ronaldo, Cavani was shot then and finished. It upset the dynamic in the dressing room for Bruno.”

He added: “I think Bruno looks up to him like a godfather in Portugal so it made him feel a bit inferior to what he was before. It made Maguire a little bit inferior as captain just naturally – nothing from Ronaldo’s doing this.

“Just his presence itself on the pitch means everyone’s looking to Cristiano with Harry trying to establish himself as United captain.”

The Portuguese star made a sensational return to Old Trafford from Juventus after leaving the club 13 years ago. But his return to the club hasn’t been overly successful, despite being the club’s top scorer, he couldn’t help his team finish any higher than sixth in the Premier League
