Tottenham set to rival Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal for "dangerous" forward in January

Cody Gakpo has a long list of suitors, including Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool, according to reports.

Tottenham have joined Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool in the race to sign PSV star Cody Gakpo, according to new reports.

The Netherlands international, who is heading to the World Cup with Louis van Gaal's side, has had a blistering start to the 2021/22 season.

The 23-year-old has already netted nine goals in 14 Eredivisie appearances this term.

And while the goals have dried up in recent weeks - he hasn't found the net in eight games - Gakpo has provided six league assists in that time, to take his league tally to 12 for the season.

He also starred in PSV's 2-0 win over Arsenal in the Europa League last month. The forward, who primarily plays on the left side, set up Luuk de Jong for the second goal of the game for Ruud van Nistelrooy's side.

And, ex-Arsenal and United forward Robin van Persie described Gakpo as 'dangerous' on BT Sport, and detailed that he 'always finds a way in most games to have an influence'.

With the World Cup getting underway for the Netherlands next Monday - they take on Senegal in their opening fixture - Gakpo can make an instant impression on the world stage.

There will be plenty of high-profile eyes watching, too.

Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool, Tottenham want Cody Gakpo

Gakpo has been linked with a move away from the Philips Stadion in recent months.

During the summer transfer window, Leeds showed heavy interest in the player, agreed personal terms and had a bid accepted, as per Fabrizio Romano. But the 23-year-old eventually stayed at PSV.

He was also linked with Erik ten Hag's Red Devils. Gakpo told The Times that he had spoken to Erik ten Hag over a move, and that he was 'close to leaving'.

However, the deal fell through, and United signed Antony from PSV's Eredivisie rivals, Ajax, instead.

Arsenal and Liverpool have also been linked with the player, with the Gunners, in particular, keen to add another wide forward player to their squad.

But transfer reporter Dean Jones has claimed in his column for GiveMeSport that Tottenham may also explore a move for Gakpo during the January window.

It is claimed that Antonio Conte and Spurs want a 'game-changing' signing, and are keeping tabs on Rafael Leao and Memphis Depay. However, a move for Blackburn star Ben Brereton Diaz is said to be unlikely.

Should Spurs sign Gakpo, he could provide additional goals that Spurs haven't got from other forward threats. Richarlison is yet to score in the Premier League this term. Dejan Kulusevski has one, although he also has five assists to his name from just eight appearances.

Spurs are currently fourth in the division, but could find themselves slipping down the table after the World Cup break if they cannot correct a run of three losses in five games. They will hope a signing like Gakpo can give them the required cutting edge.
