As I've previously discussed on these pages, when it comes to professional football, nothing has ever come close to capturing the imagination of Serie A in the 1990's. The kits were iconic, the competition cutthroat and James Richardson's desserts on 'Gazzetta Football Italia' grew more elaborate by the week.
The Italian top flight's decade of decadence started as it meant to go on, with a goal of the season competition that became the standard bearer for which the likes of Baggio, Batistuta, Totti, Del Piero, Recoba, Ronaldo and Weah spent the next 10 years trying to emulate.
Sampdoria duo Roberto Mancini and Gianluca Vialli are both featured, with a volley apiece making the not-so-short shortlist of the season in which the Genovese club claimed their last Scudetto. Interestingly enough, three ex-Chelsea managers make the grade, with the aforementioned Vialli joined by fellow thunderbastard enthusiasts Ruud Gullit and Carlo Ancelotti.

Elsewhere, a young Diego Simeone does his best 'Gazza against Scotland' impression for Pisa while Alessandro Melli will make you miss Parma more than you already did with an effort that Maxi Rodriguez must have studied religiously until he scored an almost identical pearler for Argentina against Mexico in the 2006 World Cup.
(Okay, here's that Maxi goal just for good measure...)

There are also cameos from Jurgen Klinsmann and Careca, while Daniel Fonseca contorts himself almost into a a double knot in order to send a bicycle kick past a hapless goalkeeper.
Dear '90s Serie A, can we have you back, please?
