Chelsea are reportedly set to sign Red Bull Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku next summer.

Nkunku has been linked with a move away from the German Bundesliga side but a move this summer never materialised.

However, there have been reports that the French international has already done a medical ahead of a move to Stamford Bridge next summer.

According to Daily Telegraph journalist, Matt Law, reports stating Nkunku undergoing a medical are true.

He said: “Understand reports from Germany that RB Leipzig striker Christopher Nkunku has already undertaken a medical ahead of a proposed move to Chelsea next summer are accurate.”

The deal to bring Nkunku to Chelsea is set to cost a reported fee of £53 million.

The 24-year-old was voted Bundesliga’s Player of the Year last season after putting in some stellar performances for Leipzig.

Nkunku previously spoke about speculations linking him with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

In the summer, he said: "It's no secret. There are clubs interested in me.

"Yes it's flattering, but it's also flattering to have a club like Leipzig do everything to keep me as well.

"I'll have to reflect and make a decision. The World Cup is on the way and that's another factor to take into account."

Despite all the transfer speculations, it was announced in June that Nkunku had signed a two year extension with Leipzig, which would see him tied down to the club until 2026.

However, it looks like Nkunku’s time as a Leipzig player will come to an end in the summer of 2023 as Chelsea look to begin their transfer businesses as soon as possible.

Apart from Nkunku, the Blues are also said to be targetting other midfield signings, including West Ham’s Declan Rice and Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.

Bellingham is bound to be the centre of a huge bidding war between some of the biggest clubs in world football. Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Manchester United are all believed to be interested in the immensely talented 19-year-old.
