Chelsea Prepared £86m Offer For PSG Star In Summer, French Club Did NOT Want To Sell Him

Chelsea Prepared £86m Offer For PSG Star In Summer, French Club Did NOT Want To Sell Him

Chelsea wanted to reunite Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos with Blues manager Thomas Tuchel and Thiago Silva at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea were prepared to offer a whopping £86m (€100m/$117m) to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Marquinhos in the summer window, according to stunning reports.

Former PSG boss Thomas Tuchel was keen for a reunion with the 27-year-old centre-back in a bid to strengthen Chelsea’s defence.

According to RMC Sport, Chelsea wanted to reunite Marquinhos with former PSG teammate Thiago Silva at Stamford Bridge.

Marquinhos and Silva forged an effective partnership in the heart of PSG’s defence, which came to an end with Silva’s exit from the Ligue 1 club in 2020.

However, PSG turned down Chelsea’s approach for Marquinhos and have no desire to sell the Brazilian.

Marquinhos, who is under contract with PSG until 2024, also wanted to remain at the Parc des Princes rather than sign for Chelsea.

The Brazil international arrived in the French capital at the age of 19 after PSG secured him from Roma for £27m in 2013.

Marquinhos has been an integral part of PSG’s squad and succeeded Silva as club captain in 2020.

The PSG defender has made over 300 appearances for the Parisian-based side and lifted six Ligue 1 titles, six Coupe de France trophies and six French League Cups.

Chelsea failed in their bid to sign a new defender before the summer transfer window shut on 31st August.

Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde was subjected to a £42.8m offer from Chelsea, but the La Liga club remained firm on their £68.5m asking price.

Julen Lopetegui insisted that it was the “right thing” for Sevilla to keep hold of the 22-year-old France international.

The Sevilla head coach told Diario de Sevilla: “Kounde, in the end, has stayed because the club has decided that it was the right thing to do based on the evaluation of the offers they may have had.

“For me, as a coach, that Jules stays is positive. With the evolution he has had in these two years, it is positive, without any doubt.

“We trust that he’ll continue to grow with us and, above all, perform, which is the most important thing.”

Chelsea have also been linked with Matthijs de Ligt and could reignite their interest in the Juventus star next summer once his ‘special’ release clause becomes active.
