Lionel Messi Donates The Leftovers From His Wedding To Charity

Somehow even when on his summer holidays and enjoying his wedding Lionel Messi has managed to make us applaud him, that takes some doing. The Barcelona forward did so by donating the leftovers from his wedding.

Lionel Messi can barely go a week during the football season without impressing us, and at most it's about two weeks between each record that he manages to break. But you'd have thought he might take a break in the summer.

The Argentinian superstar spent the last three summers suffering heartache with his country as they twice lost in the Copa America final on penalties to Chile and also lost the World Cup final to Germany in extra time.

This summer though the five time Ballon d'Or winner has enjoyed his time back home much more as he got married to Antonella Roccuzzo in his hometown of Rosario.

And after the wedding Mr and Mrs Messi donated the leftovers from the wedding to a local charity, rather than letting the likes of Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique take bottles of wine home with them.

Rosario Food Bank president Nadia Nazer spoke to a local newspaper on Thursday about the wonderful gesture saying, "For us any type of donation is very well received and to be honest, we are very happy that they took us into consideration.

"One of the wedding organisers got in contact with our executive director, Pablo Algrain, to offer us snacks, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks. We told them that we had to exchange the alcoholic beverages for money as we cannot give them to institutions.

Before the wedding Lionel and Antonella had asked guests to donate to South American charity Techo, an organisation that tries to eradicate poverty, rather than buy them presents.

What a guy Lionel Messi is, getting married and still thinking about those less fortunate than him.
