Bruno Fernandes slammed for 'embarrassing' dive during Man United's win over Aston Villa

Bruno Fernandes was caught producing a ridiculous dive against Aston Villa.

Bruno Fernandes has been slammed on social media for producing an 'embarrassing' dive in Manchester United's win over Aston Villa.

Man United came from behind twice to beat Villa on Thursday as they booked their spot in the next round of the EFL Cup.

The Red Devils edged out Unai Emery's team 4-2, with Fernandes scoring in the 78th minute to put his team in the lead.

But it wasn't just his goal that got fans online talking as the Portuguese midfielder was caught producing a ridiculous dive during the cup clash at Old Trafford.

A video shows Fernandes falling to the ground before making contact with Ezri Konsa.

The Man United star took a quick glance at the Villa defender before crumbling to the canvas in theatrical fashion.

Needless to say, Fernandes' moment of madness angered people on social media.

One Twitter user wrote: "He starts falling before any contact."

A second tweeted: "Love the way he’s diving way before he clatters into Konsa."

A third added: "So frustrating this is allowed to happen."

Another commented: "He's the perfect example of what's wrong with the modern game."

Fernandes' dive went unpunished as Man United beat Villa 4-2 in a thrilling cup tie.

Speaking after the game, Erik ten Hag bemoaned his side's bad transition and missed-placed passes, but was happy with the resilience shown.

"Our two halves are never the same," he told Sky Sports.

"We controlled the game in the first half by good pressing, we won a lot of possession but then did the wrong things.

"Bad in transition, missing the pass, one step too late passing in behind so we missed a lot of opportunities.

"We were sloppy and had some corners against us. At half time we said keep the pressing but be more direct.

"I'm proud of the team we could do that, we are happy tonight."

The Dutchman added: "Happy with that resilience.

"That's what we need and have to show every game, I was so disappointed and mad on Sunday because we didn't fight.

"We were sloppy, especially in the defence and United players always have to show 100 per cent discipline."

Man United will play Vincent Kompany's Burnley in the next round of the EFL Cup.
