The surprise amount that Ben Foster will be paid at Wrexham

Foster came out of retirement to sign for National League side Wrexham earlier this week, but he's getting paid less than you'd expect

Ben Foster has revealed his surprise wages at Wrexham, and the National League side's co-owner Ryan Reynolds has confirmed the news.

Football fans were certainly left surprised on Thursday, when former England goalkeeper came out of retirement to sign for non-league Wrexham.

Just a month ago the 39-year-old looked like he could be returning to the Premier League to sign for Tottenham Hotspur, after Hugo Lloris' injury.

The Premier League rules wouldn't allow for the club to sign him, leaving them with Fraser Forster as their only first senior keeper, and keeping him retire.

The former West Brom number one had also revealed that he turned down the chance to sign for Newcastle United earlier in the season.

So a return to football anytime soon looked out of the question, especially when he claimed a week ago that Wrexham had tried to bring him back, having been on loan in north Wales back in 2005, but he rejected their advances, having just played in the Premier League.

However, he's clearly changed his mind, with the confirmation of his return to the Racecourse Ground coming on Thursday, shocking most.

Foster though is not doing it for the money, "I don’t need much [money]," the 39-year-old told his podcast, The Fozcast, "To be honest, the negotiations took about five minutes.

"Wages wise, it’s literally peanuts… the part for me is getting the team over the line and getting them promoted. I'm a very low maintenance player.

"Just wheel me out, I'll do a job."

And the club's famous co-owner, Reynolds, appeared to confirm the news that Foster would be getting 'peanuts' as he retweeted the post to his timeline.

That's some 21.2 million people getting the news that the former Manchester United keeper won't be getting paid much to help Wrexham reach the Football League.

You have to wonder how many of those 21 million even know what's going on, even if the The Robins have become much more popular since the Deadpool actor and Rob Mcelhenney took over.

The two owners are actually set to step on the pitch to represent their club, in an upcoming seven-a-side tournament in America this summer.

They'll be hoping to be a League Two club by then, with the side currently three points clear of rivals Notts County, with a game in hand, as they attempt to get the one automatic promotion spot.
