Memphis Depay has reportedly chosen his new club as Barcelona demand a fee for the Netherlands international.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the 22/23 campaign, Depay is free to talk to foreign clubs ahead of a free transfer in the summer.

However, it is believed that Barcelona would rather cash in on the 28-year-old than lose him for free in June. Depay is also said to be seeking an instant move away from Camp Nou.

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, Depay is eyeing a stunning return to Manchester United this month.

Depay’s first stint at Old Trafford was extremely disappointing.

After moving to United from PSV Eindhoven in 2015, he only managed to find the back of the net seven times in 56 appearances.

The Dutchman was eventually offloaded to Ligue 1 side Lyon, where he went on to register 76 goals and 55 assists in 178 matches.

Such good form and numbers earned him a move to La Liga with Barcelona in the summer of 2021.

In one and a half seasons, Depay has 14 goals to his name in 42 appearances and has been apparently told by Barcelona boss Xavi that he is surplus to requirements.

However, it is unsure whether the Catalan club will allow Depay to move to United, especially with the fact that the pair will face off in the next round of the Europa League.

United boss Erik ten Hag was previously asked if he wants to bring in a forward during the January transfer window.

He said: “Yes, but only when we find the right player. We do everything in our power. We are doing research on every opportunity and we do everything we can if that opportunity is there to contract them.”

Who do you think United will sign in the transfer window? Let us know in the comments.
