Gerrard's Aston Villa Looking To Sign Liverpool Talent In £30M Deal

Gerrard's Aston Villa Looking To Sign Liverpool Talent In £30M Deal

After years of struggling to find a first-team spot at Anfield, Aston Villa have the English defender in their sights.

Premier League side Aston Villa are "preparing" to make a offer for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.

According to the Daily Star, the villains are ‘preparing’ a £30 million bid for the out-of-favour Anfield player.

Gomez has always been a promising talent at Liverpool, but has struggled to nail down a first-team place in an injury-filled, seven years at the club.

The brilliance of Virgil Van Dijk and the exceptional form of both Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate has meant Gomez’s game time last season was limited.

He was primarily considered a makeshift, backup right-back to cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold, if he needed the rest.

The English defender has been linked with a move away from Anfield repeatedly and the 24-year-old looks set for a reunion with former Liverpool legend and Aston Villa manager, Steven Gerrard.

If he were to join Villa, Gomez would also be linking up with former Liverpool maestro Phillipe Coutinho, as Villa continue to bring the old Liverpool faithful back together.

Gerrard's side have made a strong impact in the transfer market so far, having secured the signings of Diego Carlos and Boubacar Kamara, whilst also finalising a permanent move for Coutinho.

Should Gomez join, the Villains will have a plethora of high-quality centre-backs within their ranks, including Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa and the recently purchased Diego Carlos.

The rumoured £30 million fee to sign Gomez might be on the higher-side but there’s no doubting his ability.

The value of Gomez could almost double if he were to find his feet at Villa.

A move to Villa could also mean the chance for Gomez to return to the England set-up, should he revive his club form in the west midlands.

The Liverpool defender has made 11 caps for the national team, but has not featured for them since August 2017.

His omission from the England squad could be put down to poor club form, as well as the training ground bust up he had with England talisman, Raheem Sterling in November 2019.
