Former Arsenal star insists ‘outstanding’ talent will ‘surely’ want to leave Gunners

He will have his fair share of suitors.

Former Arsenal star Bacary Sagna claimed Kieran Tierney will “surely” want to leave the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been in imperious form this term, and are just 11 games away from claiming the club's first Premier League title in 19 years.

Arsenal are currently five points clear of reigning champions Manchester City at the Premier League summit.

Indeed they have the chance to extend their cushion at the top on Sunday when they go up against managerless Crystal Palace, who are without a win in 12.

The north Londoners’ success has been partly down to their recruitment, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard and Oleksandr Zinchenko having all impressed upon their arrival this season.

Zinchenko in particular has starred at left-back for the Gunners and even claimed the club's last two Player of the Month awards.

However, the Ukraine international’s form has meant Tierney’s game time has been greatly reduced.

Tierney to ‘surely’ leave Arsenal

Arsenal cult hero Sagna claimed Tierney will “surely” ask to leave the Gunners in the summer.

Speaking to the Games Cabin, the 40-year-old said: “He obviously hasn’t been doing amazing and this season the club have brought in Oleksandr Zinchenko, who’s become a key player in the team and in that left-back position.

“I think Zinchenko is here to stay for a long time, so Kieran is going to have to have a discussion with the club.

“Arsenal are obviously aware of his quality but if Kieran wants to play more, then I’m not sure he’s going to get in ahead of Zinchenko.

“It will be his decision of course and he can still be a part of Arsenal’s squad but as a player, you always want to play more, so he will surely be asking to leave the club.”

Tierney joined Arsenal from Celtic back in 2019 and established himself as the club’s first-choice left-back prior to Zinchenko’s arrival.

The 25-year-old was once even described by Don Hutchinson as an “outstanding candidate” to become the next Arsenal captain.
