"Incredible" - Sky pundit cannot believe what has happened to Arsenal 30-year-old

A former Arsenal striker has praised the performances of Granit Xhaka this season.

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has expressed his delight at the performances of Gunners star Granit Xhaka this season.

Xhaka has been an integral part of the side that has recorded nine wins from 11 games so far in the Premier League. Mikel Arteta's side are currently top of the table, two points ahead of second-placed Manchester City.

The Switzerland international, who was also impressive for his country at Euro 2020, is playing in a box-to-box midfield role this season.

He has netted three goals and provided three assists in 11 appearances, with that assist figure higher than all bar one of his seasons at the club since joining in 2016.

He has also only received two yellow cards in the league so far this term, compared to the 10 he has received in four of his previous five campaigns.

Xhaka has consistently produced on the international stage for Switzerland in a more advanced role - and now Arsenal fans are seeing just how good the 30-year-old can be when operating further forward more often.

And Campbell has added to the praise that Xhaka has received this term.

Kevin Campbell praises Granit Xhaka

Speaking on Sky Sports News, the ex-Everton forward explained (quotes via HITC): "I have been really impressed with Granit Xhaka. He lets his feet and football do the talking.

"He has been playing sensational this season. Playing a little bit further forward as well, being released, and he's scoring goals.

"It's been an incredible turnaround, and what a finish with his wrong foot. I would have been happy with that finish."

Xhaka infamously reacted to Arsenal fans who booed him as he was substituted in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace in 2019.

Speaking to the Players' Tribune in April, the Swiss international said he was "done with Arsenal" after the incident. However, he changed his mind.

"There was a contract on the table from another club, and all I had to do was sign," he began. "I had talked with my wife, Leonita, and we had decided to leave."

Xhaka continued: "My head had left Arsenal, but my heart had not. My heart was telling me, 'You can't leave this football club like this'."

Three years on, it is clear to see that Xhaka made the correct decision to stay - and he is now going from strength to strength at the Emirates Stadium.
