Key statistic shows how Arteta's Arsenal have masterminded comeback wins this season

Arsenal have dominated matches this season.

A key statistic has revealed exactly how Arsenal are dominating games and masterminding late comebacks under Mikel Arteta this season.

The Gunners currently sit top of the table and have surprised a lot of people with their push for the title.

Last season they didn't even finish inside the top four but they have since capitalised on drop-offs from Liverpool, Chelsea and arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, as well as their own improved performances.

They have jumped over several hurdles this season, with the latest coming on Saturday in a dramatic 3-2 victory over Bournemouth.

The Cherries took a two-goal lead and it very much looked like game over.

However, a superb comeback from Arsenal saw them score three goals, including a 97th minute winner from Reiss Nelson.

It's not for the first time either - no side has scored more winning goals after the 90th minute this season than the Gunners.

What's Arsenal's secret to scoring late on?

Their stoppage time winners this season have come against Manchester United, Aston Villa and Bournemouth.

According to Telegraph Sport, Arsenal's domination of possession has allowed them to whittle their opponents down over the course of a game, pin their back line deep and win the ball high up the pitch.

In the second half of each of the matches they have won late on, as per the same source, they have averaged 69 per cent of possession and played 134 passes in the final third.

Late goals provide the entertainment factor and whilst they might seem lucky at the time, Mikel Arteta's method of playing allows Arsenal to pounce late on and means they are never out of a tie.

Their rivals United became known for winning games late on during 'Fergie time' and they too dominated most games.

Knowing that Arsenal are capable of producing those moments will also affect their opponents even when they are 2-0 up like Bournemouth.

The Gunners continue to show that they have a mentality capable of winning titles and we'll find out soon enough if they can get over the line.
