Antonio Conte rips into ‘selfish’ Tottenham Hotspur players after Southampton draw

Antonio Conte rips into ‘selfish’ Tottenham Hotspur players after Southampton draw

It has been a tough season for Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur

Antonio Conte was absolutely furious with his Tottenham Hotspur players after drawing against Southampton in the Premier League.

Conte’s men took a 1-0 lead into the half-time interval courtesy of Pedro Porro’s first goal for the club.

In the second half, Spurs quickly raced to a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Ivan Perisic. Theo Walcott threatened a grandstand finish as he netted to make it 3-2 in the 77th minute.

As the match went deep into stoppage time, Southampton were given a penalty, James Ward Prowse dispatched his spot kick with confidence as they drew level to earn a much-needed point.

After the match, Conte blasted his Spurs players, labelling them as selfish whilst also launching an attack on the club's history. Watch the footage below.

The Italian said: “I don't want to speak about the tactical, I'm talking about the spirit and the heart we put into the pitch.

“Instead we are losing this characteristic, if you don't have this in my experience you can lose against these teams - Sheffield United (FA Cup) with younger players, today we are winning 3-1 and feel the perception anything can happen and we're scared.

“What we're seeing in these last matches, I don't like it. I'm not used to seeing this. I see a lot of selfish players. I don't see a team.”

Conte added: “They're used to it here. Don't play for something important. They don't want to play under pressure.

“They don't want to play under stress. Tottenham's story is this. 20 years there is the owner & they never won something. Why?

“Until now I tried to hide the situation. We can fight for what in this period, with this attitude, this commitment? For what? 7th? 8th place?”

Conte’s future is up in the air after yet another disappointing season, with his contract due to expire at the end of the campaign it remains to be seen whether he stays or not.
