Atletico Madrid's Angel Correa Scores Ridiculous Goal From The Halfway Line Vs Villarreal

Atletico Madrid's Angel Correa Scores Ridiculous Goal From The Halfway Line Vs Villarreal

Angel Correa scored the best goal of his career to put Atletico Madrid 1-0 up.

Atletico Madrid star Angel Correa scored an absolutely breathtaking goal to put his side 1-0 up against Villarreal this evening.

The Argentine picked up the.ball after intercepting a pass from Dani Parejo in his own half.

But instead of waiting for options, the 26-year-old spotted Geronimo Rulli off his line and fancied his chances.

From just in front of the halfway line, Correa unleashed an incredible strike that looped over the goalkeeper for a goal of the season contender.

The vision and execution was just sublime, with Rulli only able to watch the ball sail into the back of the net.

He had absolutely no right to score from there, with the goal having an XG of 0.01.

Gerard Moreno missed a penalty for the Europa League winners when given the chance to level, but Parejo did make up for his error with the equaliser in the 23rd minute.

The worldie from Correa will surely be in contention for the Puskas Award later this year and rivals halfway goals scored by legends like David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and Xabi Alonso.

The former San Lorenzo man recently signed a new contract committing his future to Atleti until 2024.

“I never imagined staying for so long, because I see players and they often change clubs,” Correa said in an interview with the club's website after extending his stay.

“This feels like my home and I’m so happy to have been here for so long.

“The club took a chance on me before I arrived. They paid for my surgery. I will always be grateful for it. They have always shown me their love.”

Should Correa see out his deal in full, he will achieve just short of ten years of service with Los Rojiblancos.
