Ange Postecoglou, the first Australian to manage in the Premier League, has given his first interview as Spurs manager – and he's made a brilliant first impression with supporters.

It was confirmed on Tuesday morning that Postecoglou will take over at the North London club after leaving his role at Scottish Premiership champions Celtic following a two-year spell.

He was described by chairman Daniel Levy as someone who will bring "a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play" to the team, as well as a strong track record of developing players.

The 57-year-old, who was Australia's senior national team manager from 2013 to 2017, has not only made a great impression on Levy but the Tottenham fans as well.

Speaking in his first interview as Spurs manager on Friday, Postecoglou delivered an encouraging message to their supporters.

He said: "Hi everyone, it’s great to finally get started as manager of this great football club.

"I’m really looking forward to our task ahead, I think it’s an exciting opportunity for us to now set off in a new direction, play football and create an environment that embodies the values and traditions of this fantastic football club.

"Hopefully a team that you can all be proud of and more importantly, get excited by. I can assure you that right through pre-season, we won’t leave any stone unturned, myself, the staff and the players to make sure that when the league comes around that you’ll be as excited as I am about the season ahead.

"I really look forward to seeing everyone at the stadium, in particular at our first home game, and look forward to the journey ahead."

Here's how fans reacted to Postecoglou's speech on social media.

One said: "It’s taken just 52 seconds of words coming out of this man’s mouth to feel more positive about things than I have over the last few seasons," while another wrote: "Seems a genuine gentleman. He’s saying all the right things."

A third commented: "It’s little words like ‘our’, ‘us’, and ‘we’ that excite me. He truly does know the values of Spurs."

A fourth said: "Love him already. I don’t know what it is about him but his aura is just so convincing. I really hope this will be a good appointment, get us playing the Tottenham way."

A fifth added: "52 seconds of content and this dude is the best manager in terms of communication we've probably ever had. I am so sold."
