Manchester United have decided to pay €50million (£43million) for André Onana after a meeting with the Inter hierarchy in Ibiza, it has been claimed.

United have made the goalkeeper position one of the priorities amid uncertainty surrounding the future of current No.1 David de Gea.

Indeed, while the Spaniard reportedly reached an agreement on a new United deal last season on drastically-reduced terms, the paperwork was never completed.

As per the Athletic, the Old Trafford club have since changed its mind on the wage and contract length and informed De Gea the offer is no longer relevant.

In place, they have offered the shot-stopper new terms that would reportedly mean another considerable reduction in salary. With United returning to pre-season next week, De Gea is still said to be undecided on his future.

At present, De Gea, who has been at United since 2011, will be out of contract on Friday and officially become a free agent. United are, in turn, scouring the market for alternatives.

Man Utd prepared to sign Onana

One keeper that has been linked with United in the past few weeks is Inter’s Onana.

And on Wednesday Gazzetta dello Sport claimed United’s director of football operations met with Inter sporting director Piero Ausilo in Ibiza and ‘agreed on the timing’ for Onana’s potential move.

Ausilo had reportedly been in England to hold talks with the United over a deal for the goalkeeper prior to the Ibiza visit.

After the meetings, it was allegedly established that United were likely to make an official bid for Onana this weekend, once De Gea’s contract has expired.

However, the publication warned that Inter may not accept United’s latest proposal, especially if it falls short of the Serie A side’s €60million (£51million) valuation.

Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed that Ausilo will have a new meeting with Onana’s agent in Ibiza this week, where they will, ‘in principle define’, the player’s fate.

The newspaper adds United have ‘decided to pay’ the €50million plus the add-ons requested by Inter for Onana.
