Allan Saint-Maximin linked with the wildest move of the January window, its come out of nowhere

Saint-Maximin was the star of the team in previous periods but Eddie Howe's side are now challenging for the Champions League places.

Newcastle United are ready to lose Allan Saint-Maximin in the January transfer window, with a Premier League side ready to pounce for a surprise move.

There isn't much that Newcastle can do that doesn't go right for them at the moment, with Eddie Howe having turned around the fortunes of the club, with the help of healthy investment.

On Tuesday night they played in their first semi-final in a major trophy since the 2005 FA Cup semi, when they played Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

It was a good night once again for Howe's side, as they won 1-0 and saw Saints lose Duje Caleta-Car for the second leg, after he was sent off.

Howe seems to have improved a lot of the squad, especially with Brazilian forward Joelinton, who has gone from a laughing stock to a brilliant midfielder.

However, one player who has weirdly suffered is Saint-Maximin, who has gone from easily the best player in the team and most of the team's entire creative spark to starting just three league games.

Now, according to the Daily Mail, the club are willing to let the 25-year-old French forward leave the club in the January transfer window.

Reports claim that Nottingham Forest are amongst the teams who are interested in the former Nice star, with either a loan move or permanent transfer interesting Steve Cooper's team.

The Tyneside club are expected to sign Anthony Gordon from Everton at some point this month, with the Champions League chasers already in talks with the relegation candidates.

Gordon was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea last summer but ended up staying at Goodison Park, but things have not improved on Merseyside.

The 21-year-old was one of the players recently approached by fans during protests against the board, and Frank Lampard was sacked after the weekend's loss to West Ham.

Things got even worse for them on Tuesday, when their own loan move for Arnaut Danjuma, who would have been an excellent replacement for Gordon, was hijacked by Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite not being at his best this season, Saint-Maximin still showed what he's capable of when Newcastle drew 3-3 with Manchester City back in August.

The mercurial forward has become a fan favourite at St James' Park for both his on field and off field exploits in the city, and they'd no doubt be gutted to lose him.

Saint-Maximin showed how much he loves the fans by paying for toys for a whole toyshop full of kids recently, what an absolute legend.
