James Garner's performance for Nottingham Forest in their FA Cup third round clash against Arsenal has got Manchester United fans talking about his future at Old Trafford.

Steve Cooper's side, who currently sit ninth in the Championship after a season of mixed fortunes, pulled off a big shock on Sunday afternoon thanks to a late Lewis Grabban strike.

It was an outstanding team performance against Premier League opposition and a number of individuals impressed throughout, including centre midfielder Garner.

James Garner’s game by numbers vs. Arsenal:

100% aerial duels won
76% pass accuracy
41 total touches
6 ball recoveries
3 clearances
3 ground duels won
2 successful long passes
2 interceptions
1 shot

Impressive performance in a huge win for Nottingham Forest. 👏 #FACup pic.twitter.com/JxgBHcipKZ

The 20-year-old, who spent the second half of last season at the City Ground, is currently on a season-long loan from Manchester United - his third consecutive loan spell away from Old Trafford.

After a solid campaign last season, Garner has continued to impress since his loan was renewed, making a total of 20 appearances in the Championship.

And once again, he looked comfortable both in and out of possession against tough opposition.

You can watch a compilation of his performance against the Gunners below.

Garner's performance certainly got fans talking. Manchester United have, at times, looked weak in central positions this season, with the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic all coming under criticism.

McTominay might be the one player who has found form in recent weeks but a large section of fans believe they need to strengthen in that central area. So could Garner be the man to solve their issues?

Plenty of people on Twitter were impressed with his efforts in the FA Cup.

James Garner can save Man United a lot of money in that CDM role

Our best CDM is on loan in the Championship....

James Garner is showing us what we are missing at Manchester United in the midfield. I knew he was ready for us to play. Enough of this loan crap honestly.

I said it last season, and I’ll say it now. Get James Garner in that midfield.

It was reported last week that Premier League strugglers Everton are planning to make a surprise swoop to sign Garner after impressing on loan at Forest.

Football Insider claim that Rafael Benitez is an admirer of the 20-year-old midfielder and is weighing up a move to snatch him for the second half of the season.

Everton are eyeing a move for Manchester United midfielder James Garner who has impressed again on loan at Nottingham Forest in the first half of the season. #EFC #MUFC #NFFC
