Three Lions Or World in Motion? Fans Decide On The Best England Football Song

Three Lions Or World in Motion? Fans Decide On The Best England Football Song

They're both high up on the list, but which did you say takes the top spot?

With the Euro's starting tomorrow, we took a trip down memory lane and tried to decipher which football song (there are many) was the best one.

And we asked you what you thought.

It's all a matter of opinion at the end of the day, but here are some of the footie anthems you said were the best. And it looks like 'Three Lions' and 'World In Motion' are fighting for the top spot.

'Three Lions' ('It's Coming Home') by Baddiel & Skinner & Lightning Seeds

"It's coming home,

It's coming home,

It's coming -

Football's coming home."

Even non-football fans know the lyrics to this legendary song from 1996.

'It's Coming Home' is probably one of the most well-known football songs in history - and according to you, also one of the best.

"The debate was settled the day that 3 Lions was released! No other football song will ever come close to that!" said @NickGrimsley.

'World in Motion' by New Order

However, other football song connoisseurs said 'World in Motion' should be top of the list.

One Tweeter (@BESTCreativeLds) said: "3 lions was an anthem for a whole generation and continues to be one but World in Motion is an absolute banger!"

Another (@ChiefRalsh) said: "It's not just the best England football song, it may just be the best song of all time."

'World In Motion' was made to celebrate the England team making it into the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

After reading some of the arguments for and against both songs, we've decided 'Three Lions' has got to be the best football song of all time (don't @ us).

The sheer catchyness of 'Three Lions' is what has made it survive all of these years. As one person (@Yid14) tweeted: "Easy the one that's sung at every tournament we are in ..... baddiel and skinner 3 lions !!"

But more to the point, "World in motion isn't really about football other than John Barnes so it's 3 lions," said @Bgavledinho.

Let's see which other football songs are fan favourites.

'Shout for England' by Dizzee Rascal and James Corden

While football fans debated between the two, one user (@TheQuimbyJoe) interjected, saying: "Why is everybody forgetting the certified banger that is Shout- by Dizzie Rascal and James Corden."

2010 saw the most unlikely collaboration between the rapper and TV presenter for this hip-hop World Cup song.

In the music video for 'Shout for England', we see Dizzee and James sitting in the crowd wearing their England shirts, breaking into song.

'We're on the Ball' by Ant and Dec

For the 2002 World Cup, the famous I'm A Celebrity presenters tried their hand at creating a football song.

Twitter user @DanielIbbotson feels very strongly about it:

"These 2 have the best England song of all time, any other answer is wrong don't @ me."

Just see how young they look in this video!

Unofficial World Cup song

"Has to be this one" said user @JonnyMonro.

'It's On Me 'ead Son, Not Off Me 'ead Son' ft. Mike Bassett is known as the song with the chant which goes: nine claps followed by an "England!"

It's a football classic.

'This Time, We'll Get it Right' by England 82 World Cup Squad

'This Time, We'll Get it Right' was the official song for the 1982 World Cup, held in Spain.

And did we get it right? No we did not. Italy did.

'England, We'll Fly The Flag,' another 1982 World Cup song, is also a fan favourite.

The UEFA Euro's 2020 kicks off on Friday 11th June 2021. The opening ceremony starts at 7pm BST and the first match - Turkey v Italy - starts at 8pm.
