F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has suggested that the sport needs to listen to Max Verstappenâs concerns regarding the 2026 regulation changes.
Four-time world champion Verstappen has been vocal in his criticism of the new regulations â with 50/50 internal combustion and electric power engines introduced in 2026 â even comparing F1 to Formula E âon steroidsâ, while also saying it is less âfunâ, âanti-racingâ and like âplaying Mario Kartâ.
On the track, the Dutchman has failed to secure a single podium and currently sits ninth in the standings, while F1 takes a hiatus following the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix.
Verstappen has even hinted that he is considering his future in the sport, with the 28-year-old saying: âIâm thinking about everything inside this paddock.

âPrivately, Iâm very happy. You also wait for 24 races. This time itâs 22, but normally 24. And then you just think about: is it worth it? Or do I enjoy being more at home with my family?
âSeeing my friends more when youâre not enjoying your sport?â, after the Japanese Grand Prix.
Now, F1 CEO Domenicali has offered his thoughts on how the sport has dealt with complaints from drivers such as Verstappen.
âHeâs the best driver, heâs a world champion, a multiple world champion, and his voice has to be listened to,â he told Autosport.
Talks are due to take place between several F1 stakeholders later in April, before the Miami Grand Prix on May 3.
Meanwhile, potential changes have already been discussed during the break, with F1, the teams, manufacturers and commercial rights holders all involved.
âWith Max, we have spoken many, many times,â Domenicali added.
âSo we understand that I understand his comments and he understands the bigger picture.
âEven today he has been in a meeting where he was very keen to give suggestions. I donât want to fall into the trap of trying to create antagonism because thatâs not me. Itâs not the way we want things to be.
âHe knows his voice carries weight and he needs to respect that. Sometimes people can take it the wrong way, and this is something we should not allow to happen.â
Mercedes duo Kimi Antonelli and George Russell currently lead the standings while Ferrariâs Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton sit third and fourth.
Reigning world champion Lando Norris and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri are in fifth and sixth.
