Max Verstappen slams Lewis Hamilton as he gives detailed verdict on Hungarian GP collision

Hamilton thought he left enough space and called it a 'racing incident' - but Verstappen had a different view.

Max Verstappen felt Lewis Hamilton was to blame for their late-race collision during the Hungarian Grand Prix - but the Brit described it as a 'racing incident'.

The pair collided as Verstappen tried to overtake Hamilton into turn one for third place, but Verstappen locked up and hit the side of the Mercedes.

The Dutchman's car subsequently vaulted over the Mercedes, and he was perhaps fortunate to be able to continue and finish the race in fifth.

Verstappen was called to the stewards after the race over the incident. Hamilton was not under investigation.

But the reigning Drivers' Champion thought Hamilton was at fault for the incident.

He told Sky Sports F1's Rachel Brookes: "I went for a move that was fully on, but in the middle of the braking zone when I'm already committed to the move, he keeps warping right.

"If I wouldn't have turned while breaking straight, I would've made contact with him.

"At one point yeah, naturally I lock up, because he keeps on turning to the right.

"People always made a lot about what happened at Austria, but that's on the initial move and then you just break straight, you hold your wheel quite straight.

"I felt like, now, it was not on the initial move but afterwards during the braking zone. He keeps turning right, you cannot do that when someone is committed on the inside.

"That's why I locked up, otherwise we would've collided anyway because he would have turned in on me. I went for a move that was fully on, I don't think I braked too late, but we'll have a look at it."

Hamilton, however, thought that he left enough space and that if Verstappen was 'under control, he would have gone by'.

He said: "For me, I think it was a racing incident.

"Ultimately, he was much quicker. He sent it, I moved a little bit to defend but I left enough space on the inside.

"He locked up and then couldn't turn, so he came at a different trajectory and clipped my wheel. If he was under control, he would have gone by."
