Fans think Max Verstappen is 'so done' after hearing Red Bull radio during Hungarian GP practice

Verstappen was less than happy on team radio.

Formula 1 fans have come to the same conclusion after hearing Max Verstappen's team radio during final practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Verstappen confirmed on Thursday that he would be remaining at Red Bull for the 2026 season.

There had been significant doubts over his short-term future with the team, who sit in fourth place in the Constructors' Championship this season.

The Dutchman has been repeatedly critical of certain aspects of his Red Bull car in recent weeks, and hasn't won a race proper since the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix back in May.

But while question marks over his team for 2026 now appear to be cleared up, his displeasure with his current car has not.

Verstappen only finished 11th in FP3, 1.248 seconds behind pacesetter Oscar Piastri.

And while practice times aren't entirely representative of the car's true pace, given that each team runs their own unique programmes and fuel loads, the Dutchman made his feelings clear about the key issue he is facing ahead of qualifying.

Over team radio, he fumed: "Agh, you try to fix the rear, and it goes into understeer. For f**ks sake."

At the end of the session, he then simply stated: "The car isn't right."

Red Bull make Verstappen change ahead of Hungarian GP

Verstappen has at least been able to welcome back race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase, who has missed two of the last three Grands Prix due to personal reasons.

He was replaced by long-standing Red Bull employee Simon Rennie, who is the simulation engineering lead at the team.

Rennie worked with Fernando Alonso at Renault when the Spaniard won the Drivers' Championship in 2005 and 2006.

Verstappen, therefore, was in good hands, and won the Belgian Grand Prix sprint before finishing in fourth in the race proper.

Lambiase has now returned to the fold for Hungary, having not previously missed a race weekend as Verstappen's race engineer, prior to Austria, since he took over the role in 2016.
