New onboard footage has shown what Max Verstappen did after the Spanish Grand Prix following his incident with George Russell.

Verstappen ran almost the entire Grand Prix in the top three positions up until a late-race safety car caused by a mechanical failure for Kimi Antonelli.

All of the leading drivers subsequently pitted and, while other teams decided to put used soft tyres on their cars, Red Bull put fresh hard tyres on Verstappen's car.

The Dutchman questioned the decision over team radio, and almost lost control coming out of the final corner on the restart as he tried to get his tyres up to temperature.

Russell then made contact with Verstappen as he attempted to overtake him into turn one, forcing the four-time world champion off the circuit.

The Red Bull driver's race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase ordered Verstappen to let Russell through on lap 62 - likely expecting a penalty to be applied by the stewards - which left the Dutchman furious.

As Russell was driving past into turn five, Verstappen veered to his right and hit the side of his rival's Mercedes.

The incident earned him a 10-second penalty, which pushed him down from fifth to 10th place in the final race classification.

He is also now at risk of a race ban, as three penalty points were added to his licence to take him up to 11 over the last 12 months.

A one-race ban is incurred after 12 points are collected, though the first of his existing points expire on June 30.

And while he refused to comment immediately after the race, took to Instagram on Monday to say his move was 'not right'.

Now, footage has shown what he did soon after finishing the race.

After taking the chequered flag, Verstappen quickly drove past both Russell and Charles Leclerc - who he made contact with on the main straight after the restart - and approached the two McLaren drivers of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

The reigning champion then put his thumb up to both race winner Piastri and second-placed finisher Norris.

Verstappen then carried on towards the pit lane, and returned so quickly that he was already getting weighed while all the other drivers were still on their cooldown laps.

His full Instagram statement on the Russell incident reads: "We had an exciting strategy and good race in Barcelona, until the safety car came out.

"Our tyre choice to the end and some moves after the safety car restart fuelled my frustration, leading to a move that was not right and shouldn't have happened.

"I always give everything out there for the ream and emotions can run high.

"You win some together, you lose some together. See you in Montreal [for the next Grand Prix]."
