Martin Brundle involved in awkward moment with Kylian Mbappe ahead of Monaco Grand Prix

Kylian Mbappe was spotted on the grid at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Martin Brundle was caught up in an awkward moment with Kylian Mbappe ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Monaco Grand Prix is regarded as one of the most prestigious and historic races in Formula 1 history.

Ahead of the race, Brundle conducted his grid walk as he spoke to a range of different stars including Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot and legendary actor Michael Douglas.

However, Brundle was caught up in a slightly awkward moment with former Paris Saint Germain star Mbappe.

As he approached the 25-year-old, Brundle was blocked by one of Mbappe’s security team.

In response, the former racer said: “It’s alright mate, I’m in charge around here,” before adding: “I think he’s happy to talk really.”

Brundle then asked Mbappe: “Kylian are you up for a quick word on Sky?”

Mbappe then replied: “I’m just here for the race.”

Not admitting defeat, Brundle said: “I think you’re fast enough to beat these cars to the first corner.”

To which Mbappe replied: “No, No, I’m not faster than the cars. I just want to be here like a fan and enjoy the moment.”

Brundle concluded by saying: “Well, I’ll let you get on and enjoy the moment. Thanks for talking to us and your dear friend there.” You can watch the footage below.

On Saturday, Ferrari star and hometown hero Charles Leclerc managed to put his car on pole position ahead of McLaren driver Oscar Piastri.

Reigning F1 world champion and Red Bull superstar Max Verstappen had an afternoon to forget as he struggled to settle in his car.

The Dutchman only managed to qualify in sixth place and faces an uphill task to win the race as the Monaco track is known for being extremely difficult to overtake.

Leclerc meanwhile will hope it's third time lucky and finally win his home race from pole position.
