It has been spotted that Lewis Hamilton and his team did an 'unusual thing' during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend.

On Sunday afternoon, McLaren duo Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris were a class above the rest as they eased to a 1-2 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Piastri took the chequered flag ahead of Norris and Ferrari star Charles Leclerc.

It was a good weekend for Ferrari as Leclerc got onto the podium, but Hamilton had a tough race as he was overtaken by Nico Hulkenberg in the Kick Sauber in the closing stages, meaning he finished in sixth place.

Speaking after the race, a dejected Hamilton said: "It's just not a great day. Just not a great day. Strategy was good, team did a great job. That's it."

When Sky Sports reporter Rachel Brookes stated that she hated seeing Hamilton in such a mood, the 40-year-old said: "What do you want me to say? I just had a really bad day and I've got nothing to say.

"It was a difficult day, theres nothing else to add to it, it was terrible. There's no point explaining it, it's not your fault, I just don't know what else to say."

In a recent video posted on social media, Formula 1 photographer Kym Illman revealed that he saw Hamilton doing an unusual thing that he hasn't done for a long time.

Illman said: "Today, he [Hamilton] drove his car nearly into the paddock. They opened the big gate, [and] he got out, only a few of the media were at that gate.

"He chatted for some time with some folks out there and then his security guard got an umbrella out to deliberately hide him from the media.

"It’s an unusual thing and we haven’t seen that for a long time. Although, this is what happened on Thursday."

He added: "He stopped, had a look at probably 10 photographers who’d run up there, myself included, and then decided he would go over to the gate that goes into pit lane."

When Hamilton realised that photographers were waiting for hime, Illman continued: "He [Hamilton] then proceeded to pretty much walk behind his security man, phone up to his face and walked past us and on through pit lane and back into the garage.

"I’m not sure what that was all about. As you can see, he was wearing Ferrari kit. I understand he’s done a deal with Ferrari that allows him to wear fashion gear a certain number of days a year."
