Jake Humphrey broke down in tears while playing tribute to his late friend and colleague Eddie Jordan after his passing.

On Thursday morning, the Formula One legend's family released a statement confirming Jordan had passed away at the age of 76 after a 12-month battle with prostate cancer.

The statement read: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Jordan OBE the ex-Formula 1 team owner, TV pundit and entrepreneur.

"He passed away peacefully with family by his side in Cape Town in the early hours of 20 March 2025."

Jordan was a former F2, F3 and Formula Atlantic driver, as well as F1 owner with Jordan Grand Prix, which lasted 14 years and won five Grand Prixs before he sold it to Midland in 2005. It has undergone a number of rebrands and is now known as Aston Martin.

But Jordan was also an F1 broadcaster and analyst during the BBC's coverage of the motorsport, as well as working for Channel 4 and Sky Sports.

Humphrey worked with Jordan during his time covering the sport for the BBC and struggled to fight back the tears as he reflected on his experiences with the 76-year-old.

"He won races, which was remarkable, but I think, more important than that, was that he won hearts," an emotional Humphrey said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

"You know, I remember when I left Formula One a lot of people were questioning why on earth you would leave the BBC to go and join BT Sport (now TNT Sports).

"And I'll never forget, he pulled me to one side and he just said, 'I know why you're doing this'.

"I said, 'really?' and he said, 'Yes - because you want to be with your kids', because my wife was pregnant at the time.

"I said, 'You're absolutely right'. He was the only person in Formula One that knew I was walking away to be with my family."

In a post on X, Humphrey paid tribute to Jordan, who he said "lit up a room whenever he entered it". The former TNT Sports host revealed that he had a final meal with Jordan and his sons recently and in his 5 Live appearance. disclosed the message he reminiscing on the good times they shared after he attended a F1 race.

"I recently went to a Formula One race and I sent him a message afterwards," he continued.

"I said, 'The sound, the smell and the heat today reminded me of our days together travelling the world. I love you brother.'.

"'Those were the greatest four years of my career, and the impact you had on me was massive.'

"'My ambition and drive came from seeing what you did and how you did it. But more importantly you were the person who made me truly realise that it's family first every time.'"
