Jeremy Clarkson made a hugely controversial claim following last year’s Monaco Grand Prix.

Clarkson, 65, is an avid F1 fan and often offers his thoughts on the sport. And this was the case during last year’s Monaco Grand Prix, which saw Charles Leclerc come away victorious.

Last May’s race saw several early red flags just a few corners in as Red Bull star Sergio Perez collided with Haas drivers Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg.

Perez, 35, was clipped by Magnussen, 32, before he collided with Hulkenberg, 37.

Clarkson took to social media and wrote: “That wasn’t K Mag’s fault in my opinion.”

And despite last year’s controversy and excitement, some have called the race into question.

Monaco hosted its first race in 1929 and is considered the sport’s most iconic track. Despite its grand history, its narrow track, in the eyes of some, can lead to ‘boring’ races.

“This is really boring... I should've brought my pillow," said Max Verstappen after finishing sixth in last year’s race.

As reported by BBC Sport, only four overtakes took place in the 78-lap race. Over the last decade, the track averages just ten overtakes per race.

But, this weekend at the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, a huge rule change will be enforced by the FIA for the first time, which will likely add excitement to the occasion.

The FIA have confirmed that each team must use at least three sets of tyres in the race - thus mandating a two-stop strategy.

In addition, the current rule of using a minimum of two different tyre compounds in the race has been retained.

An official FIA statement read: "The FIA World Motor Sport Council reviewed a proposal regarding the implementation of a mandatory two-stop strategy (in both wet and dry conditions) for the Monaco GP, with the primary intent of improving the sporting spectacle of this Race given the notable difficulty in overtaking at this circuit.

"Following recent discussions in the F1 Commission, a specific requirement for the Monaco GP has been approved, mandating the use of at least three sets of tyres in the Race, with a minimum of two different tyre compounds to be used if it's a dry race."
