Damning footage of Fernando Alonso driving during the Chinese Grand Prix has emerged following his concerning confession.

On Sunday morning, Mercedes youngster Antonelli made history as only the second teenager to secure a Formula One Grand Prix win at the Shanghai International Circuit.

The 19-year-old finished ahead of teammate George Russell and F1 veteran Lewis Hamilton, who finally took a spot on the podium for the first time since joining Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season.

But Hamilton isn't the only F1 veteran making headlines following the race, as fans have expressed concerns about the health of Aston Martin driver Alonso.

The 44-year-old was only able to complete 33 laps in China before he was forced to withdraw early, and new footage has revealed exactly why.

Ahead of the 2026 season, it was abundantly clear that the Aston Martin car was far from ready to race this year, with team principal Adrain Newey claiming that Alonso and teammate Lance Stroll risked permanent nerve damage in their hands if they completed more than 25 laps in the car.

And it appears that this may be what was impacting Alonso on Sunday, as footage from the race shows him taking both hands off the wheel while driving at speed before he was finally forced to retire due to the discomfort.

"Yeah, I could not probably finish the race anyway," the two-time F1 champion admitted post-race.

"The vibration level was very high today.

"At one point, from lap 20 to 33, I was struggling a little bit to feel my hands and my feet.

"We were one lap behind, we were last. It was probably no point to keep on going."

Alonso's 33 laps in China were an improvement to the 21 laps at the opening round of the season in Australia, suggesting progress for Aston Martin.

However, the F1 veteran explained that the vibrations were actually worse during the Chinese Grand Prix than anytime before, sparking further concerns heading into the Japanese Grand Prix on March 29.

"Yeah, it was worse today than any other session in the weekend, to be honest. For whatever reason, I don't know," Alonso admitted.

"Some of the steps we did [to make it better] were achieved artificially. I mean, just lowering the RPM of the engine and things like that, so everything vibrates less.

"But in the race, obviously, you still need to go high in some of the RPM when you make an overtake move, or when you have to recharge or something like that. Over time, it's more difficult. It's more demanding."

Earlier in the race, Alonso's Aston Martin teammate Stroll was also forced to retire after just nine laps with a suspected battery issue.

"The car just switched off going into T1. We need to look into it, but suspect it was a battery-related issue," the Canadian revealed post-race.

"We have lots of work ahead of us in all areas and need to push for improvements. It's not an easy time for the team, but we're all working together and there is a lot of potential to unlock."
