A fan's favourite Formula 1 track could make a shock return to the calendar with talks reportedly at an advanced stage.

In 2026, there will be one new race on the calendar, with Madrid hosting a Grand Prix at the Madring Circuit from September 11-13.

Last month, doubts were raised over the event, with reports claiming that the race in Madrid is at risk of being cancelled due to "delays in the project's implementation".

RMC Motori stated that during a recent visit to the area, they stumbled across 'a massive construction site, with excavators and bulldozers idling alongside vast areas with no sign of recent progress'.

However, the mayor of Madrid has since rebuffed the rumours.

As per Spanish news outlet MARCA, Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida said: "I don't know where that news comes from. Madrid, despite the reluctance and what bothers some, will have an F1 Grand Prix.

"The circuit is ahead of the schedule planned for its execution and it is going perfectly. And Madrid, despite the reluctance and what bothers some, will have an F1 grand prix, which will be one of the best grand prix, if not the best."

Now, it has been reported that the Turkish Grand Prix could be making a shock return to the F1 calendar.

According to LWOS, negotiations between promoters and Formula One Management have been ongoing for a while, and talks appear to be at an advanced stage.

It has been stated that a five-year contract was offered.

However, nothing is yet to materialise as Istanbul Park will have to be modernised to adhere to FOM's standards.

The report said: "Turkey is set to become the next permanent circuit on the calendar. Despite increased competition and demand, Istanbul Park is well-positioned to retake its place."

The Turkish Grand Prix last happened in 2021, when Valtteri Bottas won the race around Istanbul Park ahead of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.
