F1 fans furious as team switches to 'horrendous' new name which could be tricky for commentators

The 2024 Formula 1 season gets underway in March

Formula 1 fans have been left furious after a team announced their new name.

The 2023 season was an absolute walk in the park for Red Bull superstar Max Verstappen, who eased to his third successive F1 world title.

Ahead of the new season, teams are starting to announce the dates for the reveal of their new cars.

It was announced on Wednesday afternoon that Red Bull’s sister team, AlphaTauri, will go by a new name after their rebrand.

However, the new name of Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team has not gone down well with the fans.

Although they will be more commonly known as RB, fans were quick to react on social media.

One said: “Oh that’s horrendous.”

Another tweeted: “So it was definitely not a hack of their accounts some days ago as some people expected.”

A third fan added: “What's next, changing driver names after sponsors?”

Someone else wrote: “Red Bull really stopped caring about this team huh?…”

A fifth commented: “I think we'll announce the world championship for the worst team name.”

Another fan said: “This name is completely awful.”

Prior to being known as AlphaTauri, the Red Bull sister team went by the name Toro Rosso.

Over the years, the likes of Verstappen, Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo have all driven for the team.

Peter Bayer, Visa Cash App RB’s chief executive said: “It's fantastic to reveal the new identity and to welcome new partners as we embark on the next phase of the team's Formula 1 story.

“Faenza [the team's factory] is entering a new era of racing, staying true to our roots as a hothouse for talent but now with an even greater focus on competing for the biggest prizes in F1.

“We have a bold vision for the team led by myself and team principal, Laurent Mekies and having future-focused partners such as Visa and Cash App alongside us on that journey is hugely exciting.”

The 2024 F1 season will begin with the Bahrain Grand Prix, which will take place on 2 March.
