McLaren's Oscar Piastri has answered an awkward situational question about what F1 drivers can do when they need to go to the toilet during a grand prix.

The F1 season is drawing towards an exciting conclusion as both championships are up for grabs with six races remaining of the 2024 campaign.

In the drivers' standings, Red Bull's Max Verstappen leads the championship by 54 points from nearest challenger Lando Norris.

Verstappen extended his lead slightly over the McLaren driver yesterday when he won the Sprint race at this weekend's US Grand Prix in Austin, ahead of the main Grand Prix this evening where Norris lines up on pole ahead of the Dutchman.

In the constructors' championship, McLaren have a 39 point advantage over Red Bull, with Ferrari 30 points behind the second placed outfit.

McLaren are seeking to win their first constructors' championship since 1998 and Norris is aiming to be the British team's first drivers' champion since Lewis Hamilton back in 2008.

Verstappen meanwhile is seeking to win his fourth world championship in a row, which would tie him with Sebastian Vettel and Alain Prost if he achieves it.

As well as the six Grand Prix still to take place, there are two more Sprint races to be held in Brazil and Qatar, meaning many more points remain on offer this season and it is far from over.

When it comes to go to the toilet, it is a delicate question which many people will likely think about with F1 drivers and how they can approach this tricky subject - it's not like they have service stations or special pit stops which allow toilet breaks.

And Piastri has confirmed what many of us probably suspected - that the only option really available to F1 drivers who need to go to the toilet urgently is to go in their race suits while they are still driving around in their cars, though he has confirmed he has never done that despite needing to go.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1, he said: "If you need the toilet in the race you don't have many options to you.

"It's not unheard of for drivers to go in their suit. Personally, I've never had to.

"Well, I have had to but I've never followed through with it.

"There's not much you can do. Some drivers are able to go in their race suit which is a bit gross, but if you gotta go, you gotta go."

A bit grim, to say the least, but it's the only option a driver really has.
