F1 fans have made the same complaint after Adrian Newey's move to Aston Martin from Red Bull was confirmed.

Newey left his role as Chief Technical Officer with the Red Bull Racing F1 team in April after 18 years.

He continued to work on Red Bull projects, including their first track-specific hypercar, but no longer had input in the design of the F1 car.

The 65-year-old, who was chiefly responsible for all of the Red Bull cars that won 25 titles since 2010, will now start a new adventure with Aston Martin from 2025.

Newey has signed a long-term, £30 million-per-year contract with the Silverstone-based team, and will become a shareholder as part of his new role.

He will work alongside team drivers Lance Stroll and two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.

His new official title will be Managing Technical Partner, with Newey being based at the Silverstone HQ.

He also held talks with Ferrari, with their team principal Frederic Vasseur confirming on Tuesday that those negotiations had ultimately failed.

The move to Ferrari would have given Newey the chance to work with Lewis Hamilton, with the 65-year-old stating in the past that he would ideally like the chance to work with either Hamilton or Alonso before he retired.

And fans had one complaint about his decision to join Aston.

One wrote: "That's a shame? Could you imagine Hamilton and Leclerc in a Newey-designed Ferrari?"

A second admitted: "Here officially goes my Leclerc-Hamilton-Newey trio daydream."

A third said: "Lance Stroll will drive a car designed by Adrian Newey before Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton."

But a fourth countered: "I think Aston is a better fit for Newey anyway. More of an exciting project."

And a fifth agreed: "Newey is insanely talented but considering what his demands were rumoured to be, I'm not mad Ferrari didn't match them."
