Ricky Evans was booed by the Alexandra Palace crowd after he delivered a "very controversial take" during a chaotic post-match interview with Sky Sports reporter Polly James.
It was an eventful opening game for "Rapid", who secured his place in the second round of this year's World Darts Championship with a 3-0 victory over Hong Kong's Man Lok Leung.
The 35-year-old, from Kettering, recorded an average of 92.26 and produced arguably his best performance to date at the Ally Pally, hitting a 134 checkout against an out-of-sorts Lok Leung.
But it was Evans' antics away from the oche that got people talking.
Speaking in his post-match interview with reporter Polly James, the world number 40 delivered a quite bizarre rant about Christmas being "rubbish".
As you can see in the footage below, this revelation was met by a chorus of boos from the crowd. Evans, however, was not done there as he described gravy as "the devil".
Evans, who split his trousers during the match against Lok Leung, proceeded to unleash a two-and-a-half-minute rant about gravy in his post-match press conference.
"Oh, everyone loves it, don't they? My sister, when she was alive, and my mum used to bathe in it. I just hate it," he told reporters.
"Apparently, as a boy, I loved it. Just that and baked beans. Oh, God. I hate it. Just give me some cranberry sauce and ketchup. That will do. The KFC one, everyone raves about it, but no."
Asked what a Christmas Day meal looks like in the Evans household, he replied: "All the meat, the mash, the roasties. Basically, all the meat and potato. I don't mind the odd veg, but just no gravy. I'll have cranberry sauce and a bit of mint sauce or something like that.
"I just hate gravy. This year, I've started going on a few dates. The better half introduced Peppercorn sauce. I've never had it until April. Apparently, it's like gravy. Is it like gravy? No. My girlfriend, she's like, if you like that, you'll like gravy.
"I'm like, OK. Of course, she brings it out and I'm heaving."
