A player won a leg of darts whilst his opponent was still on 501 in bizarre scenes.

The World Darts Championship is underway as the likes of Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Stephen Bunting have taken to the Ally Pally stage.

Ross Smith and Jeffrey de Graaf have already been sent packing, not to mention Cameron Menzies, who smashed up the water table in a moment of madness after his shock defeat to Charlie Manby on Monday.

Away from the World Darts Championship, darts players are also taking part in Double Trouble 4 - a format that requires players to start the leg with a double and to finish the leg with a double.

And the game between Kevin Painter and Richie Burnett saw a remarkable sequence play out in the opening leg.

Painter won the first leg of his tie against Burnett, who was rooted on 501.

Burnett failed to hit a double at the start of the leg, meaning he couldn't move forward.

As he struggled to hit D20, Painter cleared 501, eventually winning the first leg with D8.

Burnett, however, turned things around as he got the better of Painter.

He won three legs on the spin despite not getting off the mark in the first leg. He checked out on D8 to win the fourth leg, winning the game 3-1.

Naturally, Burnett's average took a hit after failing to get off the mark in the first leg. He averaged 57.08 while Painter had an average of 66.

But he had superior checkouts than Painter and hit more scores of 100+ than his opponent.

Burnett also beat Neil Duff, Alex Spellman and Robert Thornton at Double Trouble 4.

The Welshman, however, suffered a 3-2 defeat to Graham Usher.

He sits in second place of Group A, behind Usher, who occupies top spot on leg difference.
